Here's a riddle for ya. What do Bank of America, Chase, Bank of Hawaii, Ally Bank, and eTrade have in common? Answer: They are the top 5 most effective banking brands online ranked by Heardable Score. Bank of America had the highest score with 477 out of 1,000 points possible.

So what is a Heardable Score? Think of it as a FICO score for brands. It's a scoring system that analyzes 438 separate data points for each brand and its competitors, in real time, isolating those areas in which the business operator has an advantage over its competition, and which areas it needs to improve.

On the whole, banks and savings institutions could be doing a much better job managing their online brands. Even Bank of America's score of 477 is just above average. No bank scored in the higher categories of category leader or champion.

Here is a list of the twenty highest ranking brands along with their Heardable Scores.
